Healthy, Fresh & Delicious Tibetan Food

My name is Tenzin, I was born and raised in a rural nomadic Tibetan community, where my mother’s cooking was the heart of our household.

Today, I bring that heart and soul to ‘Tibet Flavour’, my kitchen in Cambridge. Using my mother’s ingredients and recipes, I create dishes that satisfy my desire to recall deeply ingrained memories of flavours and also allows me to share them with you. Remember the power of taste in evoking memories and emotions.

Our food van is at Ely Market in Cambridgeshire every Saturday & Sunday, and we attend many other festivals & events too. We also offer catering for private functions

Sharing our History

I am very honoured to share my family’s traditions and my country’s heritage.

With my wife, Sertso, when we cook and serve our customers, we hope that the tastes from our past will create joyful memories and emotions in you too.

Sharing food with family and friends bonds us all together and are moments we should treasure.

Our Story

May all beings be happy and have the cause of happiness.
May they be free from suffering and the cause of suffering.
May they never be parted from sorrowless bliss.
May they dwell in equanimity without attachment and hatred to those near and far.

A daily prayer uttered by my parents before dawn penetrated my ears while I was in a deep sleep, wrapped in my lamb-skinned Tibetan robe. As usual, my mum continues her regular chores in the tent while preparing Tsampa (roasted barley flour) for everyone. “Tenzin, wake up and drive the yaks up to the mountain and get some wild garlic on the way back.”

“Wild Garlic” is a traditional plant which is more commonly utilised as an ingredient in my village throughout the late spring and early summer.

This plant is ingrained in my childhood memories because of its distinct flavour and periodic growth that occurs only at particular times. “Are you going to make Momo tonight, Ama?”

My memories are nourished by those periodical moments of wild garlic collections and Tibetan Momos that Mom made. Even after so many years, I still remember the places where wild garlic grew the most, the slippery slopes where I would risk getting hurt for a handful of them, and running like a rabbit when chased by the roaming dogs in the field!

These memories have followed me like a shadow throughout my journey to the West. Even after twenty years in the diaspora, the flavour of Mom’s cooking still has haunted me through every corner of my life. It feels like it was only yesterday.

I cannot bring my childhood memories into reality, neither can I bring the physical wild garlic to where I reside. However, I can recreate the flavours that are rooted in those memories and share them with those around me.

Tashi Delek, and may all the auspicious goodness be with you.
